Found this in my Biology book! :-))
A now-famous female skeleton dates at 3.18 (million years ago) is known worldwide by its field name, Lucy. [The name derives from the Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."] Although her brain was quite small..
Haha! I read/heard about this years ago.
I didn't know I would find it in a textbook just by scanning through it... I've got Beatleradar!
Why was Lucy named Lucy?
Inspired by repeated playings of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" at a celebratory party on the day the specimen was found, researchers gave it the Beatles' mod moniker.

"The famous hominin Lucy has had a makeover, thanks to newly discovered fossils. The more-fleshed out fossil record has left Lucy looking less fleshy. Her big potbelly is gone, and scientists added a dainty arch to her foot - they think Lucy actually spent a fair bit of time walking on the ground." -Source
