Happy 45th anniversary! You should do a psychedelic Sgt Pepper style theme on the site next! ;-) I'm getting tired of this one eventhough it's groovy it makes me blue LOL

Happy 45th anniversary! :-)

I remember seeing the intro of Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane on Dick Clark. It really Blew My Mind, how they changed so much!! When the Anticipated Sgt. Pepper Album was finally released here in the states, I ran out and got it. I was amazed and overwhelmed with every song on the album. While playing it over and over again, I kept looking at album pictures and lyrics on the album. It was Truly Amazing!! The album was a true reflection of that time. The Music, Art, Fashion, the Changing Ultra Colorful Culture and Vibe of the times! The Beatles were a Big Part of that! And the Album blew me away! When I listen to the songs these days, it brings me back to a time of a magical summer that was so Fantastic!!

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: A short review I found.

With Revolver, the Beatles made the Great Leap Forward, reaching a previously unheard-of level of sophistication and fearless experimentation. Sgt. Pepper, in many ways, refines that breakthrough, as the Beatles consciously synthesized such disparate influences as psychedelia, art-song, classical music, rock & roll, and music hall, often in the course of one song. Not once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita." There's no discounting the individual contributions of each member or their producer, George Martin, but the preponderance of whimsy and self-conscious art gives the impression that Paul McCartney is the leader of the Lonely Hearts Club Band. He dominates the album in terms of compositions, setting the tone for the album with his unabashed melodicism and deviously clever arrangements. In comparison, Lennon's contributions seem fewer, and a couple of them are a little slight but his major statements are stunning. "With a Little Help From My Friends" is the ideal Ringo tune, a rolling, friendly pop song that hides genuine Lennon anguish, à la "Help!"; "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" remains one of the touchstones of British psychedelia; and he's the mastermind behind the bulk of "A Day in the Life," a haunting number that skillfully blends Lennon's verse and chorus with McCartney's bridge. It's possible to argue that there are better Beatles albums, yet no album is as historically important as this. After Sgt. Pepper, there were no rules to follow -- rock and pop bands could try anything, for better or worse. Ironically, few tried to achieve the sweeping, all-encompassing embrace of music as the Beatles did here.

:-)

Thanks for sharing how exciting it felt for you when Sgt. Pepper came out in 1967!

I wasn't around then, but I can only imagine how in a matter of years, the clean-cut moptop Beatles we all knew turned into a parade of mustaches and colorful clothing!

(As for tribute bands, it only takes them a few minutes...)

Aww, I saw that video & even posted it here somewhere on the boards. Dick Clark showing teenagers their first viewing of the video for Strawberry Fields Forever... I hated some of the responses, but then I joked saying that I was the last girl in the video to respond. Haha.

Other members here prefer Magical Mystery Tour over Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, noting that there are better songs/hits on it like Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane and All You Need Is Love. I can see why, but I love both albums oh so much to pick one over the other!

JP Walrus also probably pointed out how it would have been awesome to have Sgt. Pepper/MMT as a 2 PART album like The White Album... I'm not sure how that could have worked out! We'll discuss that in a different topic.

Thanks for sharing that review. The writer states that there could be better Beatles albums, but says no other album is as historically important, and time is only proving that to be true. It is listed as #1 on Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

For the record, Sgt. Pepper is also THE BEST SELLING ALBUM for The Beatles, and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide for the past 45 years. That is like, 700 thousand copies a year! O___O

Thanks! I was Happy to share! Yes indeed, in only a matter of years the clean - cut moptop Beatles all of a sudden turned into a parade of mustaches and colorful clothing!  :-) And yes, as for the tribute bands it only takes them a few minutes. LOL!

Oh, you saw that video and even posted it here on the boards. Cool!  :-) The Dick Clark one. I hated most of the teenagers responses too! I agreed with the response of that last guy who said He Loved It!! So did I!! I thought the Strawberry Fields Video was Awesome! The Beatles looked so different but in a good way for me and so many people at the time! The music, the color, the lyrics, and the way they looked was so new and amazing! Our Beloved Beatles who changed music forever in the previous few years yet again changed everything with Strawberry Fields and the Sgt. Pepper Album! They were constantly changing and evolving and were trend setters for so many things! They reflected the times and at the same time helped change the times! They first did it when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. Then again Everything changed in 1967 with Sgt. Pepper!

And also with the help from George Martin they kept experimenting and coming up with new recording studio techniques. They were trend setters in the recording industry too.

Re: "I joked saying that I was the last girl in the video to respond. Haha." LOL! :-) I'm sure if you were there, you would have said you Loved it too!! :-)

I can see why other members here prefer MMT over Sgt. Pepper. Yes, MMT did have the Hits and better songs. The songs you mentioned plus I loved "Hello Goodbye" and "Baby, You're a Rich Man". And I Loved "I Am the Walrus"!! And some of the others not mentioned here were oh so Good too!  But, I love some of the songs on Sgt Pepper as well. "A Day in the Life", "Getting Better", Fixing a Hole", and more! Yes, I can see why too, and it's also hard for me to pick one over the other. Depends on the mood I'm in.  :-) I see JP Walrus pointed out that it would have been awesome if Sgt. Pepper and MMT as part 2 could have been made into a double album like the White Album. That could have been an Awesome double album! :-)  I'm also, not sure how that could have worked out! For many reasons of course.

Thanks! I thought that short review I found made the Point that Sgt. Pepper is such an Historically Important Album! As you shown here it is listed as # 1 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of ALL Time! And also as you noted it's the BEST SELLING Album for the Beatles! WOW, I didn't know that. Thanks for the Links! Yes, as the reviewer noted: "no other album is as historically important, and time is only proving that to be true"!! :-))

Thanks Beatle Girl! :-)

I like Sgt. Pepper but I never agreed it's their best, but just for "A Day In The Life" alone, I guess that's why people say its the best! lol!!! I always liked the similar psychedelic-y Magical Mystery Tour album more. But every Beatles album is amazing in it's own way!!! Happy celebration everyone! :-)

I see your point Sadie! I could imagine many people would say it's their favorite album, just for "A Day In The Life"!!! One of my ALL Time Favorite Songs!!! Yes, MMT has a similar psychedelic touch! And has a lot more Hits and better songs. I agree, Every Beatles album is Amazing in it's own way!! :-))

It's Sgt. Pepper & Paul McCartney month! I have a Sgt. Pepper's mouse pad :))

I still can't remember the names of each faces on the cover!!!

Here is a page about "The Making of The Sgt. Pepper album"

That's a Great Site! A Lot of information there! It would be very hard to remember all 62 names, except for around 20 of them of course! LOL! ;-) I only knew 24 of them

Peter Blake's original drawing for the album cover. What a masterpiece the Final Cover was! :-))
