Del Shannon ~ Runaway

One of my favorite songwriters & vocalists ever, Del Shannon shoots up to the top of my list.

 
His vocals imitating like sirens, the minor chord changes, the heartfelt and self-humiliating lyrics all get to me. He was able to write sweet-sounding, yet somber some song such as Runaway. His other songs include "Hats Off To Larry", "Runaway Sue", and "Keep Searchin'"
 

 

 
 

Del Shannon was rumored be a fill in, rather than a replacement after the death of Wilbury "Lefty", Roy Orbison. But a soon untimely death that resulted in a fatal self-inclicted gunshot to the head proved it not to be so. Del killed himself  February 8, 1990, sitting on his rocking chair, found by his wife, Bonnie, discovered him hours later. Del was on Prozac for his treatment of depression.
