You Be The Judge!

In this first edition of "You Be the Judge", (I was inspired by the lawsuit that happened between George's "My Sweet Lord" & The Chiffon's "He's So Fine", but we will talk about that at another time) we will compare the lyrics of Paul's "Waterfalls" (1980) to TLC's "Waterfalls" (1995). Some of you may want to be familiarized with the songs since Paul's was not a hit, and TLC's being a 90s hit song.

Here are the YouTube videos for each of them:

TLC Song - http://youtu.be/8WEtxJ4-sh4?t=1m58s

The chorus of TLC's 'Waterfalls'
Don't go chasing waterfalls, please stick to the rivers
And the lakes that you're used to
I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all
But I think you're moving too fast

First verse of PM's 'Waterfalls'
Don't go jumping waterfalls
Please keep to the lake.
People who jump to the waterfalls
Sometimes can make mistakes.

Hmm, Same title, and even some of the same words. I'm speculating that if the writer(s) of this song wanted to write about waterfalls, they may have looked for old songs in the past, and had found McCartney's track. They used Paul's verse to make up the catchy and memorable chorus. What do you guys think?

Paul has been questioned about the comparison, and he said was that TLC's 'Waterfalls' carried elements of his own 'Waterfalls'. If that is the case, was it intentional? Should McCartney be credited for the chorus of this '90s hit song?

There are other songs by other bands with the title 'Waterfall' but they do not carry the same metaphorical meaning as they do in these both songs discussed in this topic.
Let me know your final thoughts. You Be The Judge!

Thanks for reading, guys! Let me know if I should add or correct anything to this! :D

I remember when this song came out. My alarm bells went off instantly.

So...if Paul's been questioned about it, I wonder what he said! Hmm!
