Last night, Julian Lennon appeared at the Pierre Hotel in NYC last night for the Lupus Foundation of America Dinner. Called The Butterfly Gala, this is a celebration honoring those who have been of great help to those who suffer with the disease, and their families. This fundraising gala is working to raise awareness of lupus and invest in life-saving research and services.
Julian has been an instrumental figure in the fight against lupus since his friend Lucy died of the disease. Lucy is the young friend in the painting that Julian drew as a child, and the inspiration behind the song Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds. He produced Lucy in honor of her life.
Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body (skin, joints, and/or organs inside the body). Chronic means that the signs and symptoms tend to last longer than six weeks and often for many years. In lupus, something goes wrong with your immune system, which is the part of the body that fights off viruses, bacteria, and germs ("foreign invaders," like the flu).
