Here's a discussion on how our mothers know things, whether she's right or wrong, weird or normal, or knowledgeable or just plain doesn't make any sense! It could be funny or serious!

John's mum taught John as a little kid to play the banjo.

The relationship between John and Julia was perfect. Julia was very young at heart and had much the same sense of humor as John. Julia was also very fond of music. John's father Fred Lennon had taught her to play the banjo and now she taught John. The first song John learned on the banjo was Buddy Holly's That'll Be The Day. Julia was a perfectionist and didn't stop until he had learned all chords and would help him write the correct words down.

My mom's the reason I had so many resources as a child to feed my Beatley need!

Lucky ducky!

As for me, my mom had the $$ for me to sneak in a few Beatley buys as I went into stores with my intense Beatle highs.

My parents gave me the money to get Beatles' 45's, albums, and to see AHDN & Help, when they were released! :-D

Happy Birthday to My Mom... Without her, I wouldn't even be here! I wouldn't even have known about The Beatles!

Thank you, mama, for giving us "BeatleAnn!" I love this website & it's all thanks to you.

LOL! That's a funny picture of you two seeing Paul!

Yes, I can't thank Ann's mother enough for giving birth to my favorite Beatle buddy and best friend in general! :-D

I found this quote that Paul said in 2011. Good to see that he still mentions his mother to this day!

McCartney described how his life was so busy with the Beatles, their hectic schedule, and, of course, their well documented use of illegal substances.

"And I went to bed one night [I] had a kind of restless night. But I had a dream where my mother, who had been dead at that point for about 10 years, came to me in the dream and it was as if she could see that I was troubled. And she sort of said to me, ‘Let it be.’ And I remember quite clearly her saying ‘Let it be,’ and ‘It's going to be okay, don't worry.’ You know, ‘Let it be.’" The phrase, "Let it be" was meant to calm him down and was kind of a mantra to just let his life slow down a bit.

“And I woke up and I remembered the dream, and I thought, well, that's a great idea. And I then sat down and wrote the song using the feeling from that dream and of my mum coming to me in the dream. I think, then, when I said mother Mary, meaning my mother - I had mother Mary, father James - she was a good Catholic girl. When I put that in the song, I think a lot of people then thought that - it's become kind of quasi religious with Mother Mary, Virgin Mary, which is fine by me, if that's how you want to take it." As McCartney explained, his mother's name was Mary so the song was meant as a statement from his mother, not anything religious, as many people have taken it to be.

The actual reason was my mom came to me in a dream and actually said ‘Let it be,’ which turned out to be great advice. Thanks, mom."

How sweet! :-)

BeatleGirl, I Love that Photo!! And such Lovely words you said about your Mother!! :-)

I Agree with BeatleNut and Sadie!! Thank You to Ann's Mother for giving us BeatleGirl - Ann!! Our Beatle Buddy, such a Great Friend, and without her we wouldn't have this Great Site that we Love!!  :-)

Sadie, Thanks for what you posted here! It describes so well how the song "Let It Be" came about! And it's Nice that he still mentions his mother to this day!! Yes, Sweet!  :-)

Thanks Beatlebob, I'm glad you enjoyed that quote, and yes, that's why I posted it. Because it was sweet (although I already knew all of that, and I'm sure most of you already did too) and it's perfect for our current "Let It Be" and "Mother's Day" month theme. :-)

Paul has a song called "Only Mama Knows", but I think the lyrics are fictional? A great song! I remember being impressed when I first found out it was from 2007!

You're Welcome Sadie! Yes, it was perfect for our current "Let It Be" and "Mother's Day" month theme!!  :-)

I'll have to check out that song "Only Mama Knows"!! Thanks for telling me about it!  :-)
